What can you do when your own car no longer moves on its own? Repairs in your own garage are not always possible or justified and, of course, a faulty vehicle should not simply be left on the side of the road. If you do not want to rent a tow truck or you need to regularly move your valuable vehicle around the country, you should familiarize yourself with using a road carrier.
Road transport by carrier is a necessary safety measure
For a tow car truck, of course, you will first need a tow truck and a car trailer. It can often be found in a trust workshop or in online stores. In some cases, gas stations also offer such a service and rent trailers for vehicles.
The right trailer for road transport
When choosing a trailer for vehicles, there are a few things to keep in mind to avoid pointless situations as a result. If the vehicle you want to transport can be moved independently – a trailer with a ramp is enough. Vehicles that cannot or must not be moved must be lifted onto the loading platform by a winch. In addition, the trailer, of course, must be designed for the weight of the vehicle. For example: a mini Cooper trailer should not be loaded with an SUV. You also need to think about whether your car needs a trailer with one or two axles. Single-axle trailers are easier to maneuver and pull, but usually the safety of two-axle trailers prevails.
How to properly load the car on the carrier?
When loading a car on a trailer, patience is needed, because those who make mistakes here risk not only their car, but also their lives. Therefore, the vehicle must be carefully balanced on the trailer and, above all, carefully secured.
- Place the car exactly parallel to the trailer and drive into it;
- Make sure that the rear of the trailer is secured, otherwise it will tip over immediately;
- It is better to use the help of a person who will guide you so that the car stops right in the middle;
- Switch off the engine, apply the gear and handbrake.
After performing these actions, the car is on the trailer, but you are far from complete.

Next, you need some reliable tension seat belts that should secure your car. In turn, you should use a special system that was developed directly for road transport on a trailer. Therefore, you need to lock all four wheels (put in front of them locking equipment) to limit forward and backward movement. When unloading the car from the trailer, the same rules apply as when loading it: use the help of a person who will control your actions, drive slowly and pay attention to the vehicle behind you.
