“Muscle” cars were shelved by many automakers 50 years ago, but interest in powerful cars has not completely disappeared, either from the creators or from users.
Recall that musсle cars officially appeared at the dawn of the 60s of the last century, when the era of cheap fuel and universal love for drifting on the streets reigned. Then the first idea came to the creators of cars, to turn a simple serial into a super-powerful car that everyone can afford.
Ford muscle car list is one of the leading companies of that time, which was delighted to be imbued with this adventurous idea, although it was well aware that, according to the legislation of that time, it was almost impossible to market a passenger car with a very powerful engine designed for trucks. However, not without the participation of the creators of the “Ford classics”, this breakthrough became possible. And now Ford old muscle cars are remembered with special warmth by those who even today dream of cars with “biceps”.
Ford Thunderbird 1955
This car appeared almost ten years before the official start of the era of muscle cars, but it is difficult to remain silent about its muscular roots, because the car was a truly interesting specimen, the characteristics of which allow it to be ranked among the old-style muscle cars.
It was shown to the public on February 54th, but it went into series by the beginning of 55th. The estimated sales volumes were almost doubled. This model is a luxury multiplied by a sporty, brutal character. The steel body parts were supposed to simplify the car, but in reality, they only improved its appearance.
Inside, the car was equipped with a 4.8 L V8 engine, which produced 193 hp. Two three-speed gearboxes (mechanics and automatic). By the way, the automatic variation boldly added engine power + 5 hp.
FORD GALAXIE 500 1959
The model was not considered too popular in the list of all ford muscle cars, but its performance surprised many fans of muscle cars. It accelerated to 96 km/h in 7 seconds, which at that time could be considered just an impeccable result.
The creators figured out that such a powerful car needed a heavy-duty chassis and they really outpaced the capabilities of that time in their characteristics. On a flat track he had no equal, but in sharp turns he could not boast of good stability and often went into a skid.
The most popular version of the Galaxy was the V8 292 with 200 hp.under the hood. By the way, this variation of Ford’s car went through a record number of re-styling during production from 1959 to 1974.
Ford Shelby Mustang GT-350 1966
The Ford Mustang was produced with a 6-cylinder engine and a V8, which gave the car 310 hp, which accelerated the muscle car to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. The maximum acceleration speed is 206 km/h. The car was re-styled three times and in 1967 the car already had 231 km/h and 396 hp.
