Since its inception, the American concern has always strived to amaze motorists by producing comfortable high-speed cars. And so at the Detroit Auto Show, Ford unveiled a new Mustang Shelby GT500. It is the fastest Ford Mustang world today.
The creators of the fastest Mustang model in history, while maintaining some intrigue, nevertheless revealed some secrets of the technical equipment of their new brainchild. Firstly, a 5.2-liter V8 engine is harmoniously located under the hood, which has a number of design innovations compared to previous models. The engine has an aluminum block that has undergone a change in the CPG, and the designers also installed a new compressor, which surprised the specialists with its technical performance. As the designers noted, the capabilities of such an improved engine allow reaching a power of 700 hp. It turns out that the Shelby GT500 is not only the fastest car ever rolled off the company’s assembly line, but also the most powerful in the history of Ford.
Secondly, to improve the transmission of a high-speed car, a seven-speed robot was installed. To improve the torque, a carbon fiber gimbal was installed on the car. A cardan made of this material and a “robot” are used for the first time when assembling a car. Thanks to innovations, gear changes are carried out in a record 0.1 seconds. Five speed modes allow you to select the desired one depending on road conditions, including you can turn on the speed mode of the race track.
The Mustang Shelby GT500 showed everyone its unique capabilities at the auto show. In just 11 seconds, it covered a distance of 402 meters, and accelerated to 96 km/h in 3 seconds.
Given such speed and power indicators, the designers needed to improve the shock absorbers and a new braking system of the famous Brembo brand. The brakes use 420 mm discs and 6-piston calipers.
As for design, the fastest Mustangs world has remained recognizable, retaining the classic outlines of the lines, although it has acquired some aggressiveness in appearance. The hood of the car has slightly changed, and the air outlets of the bumper have also increased. As befits an animal, the radiator grille resembles the mouth of a predator.
The first copies of the “Mustang Shelby GT500” in the fall went on sale in two variations. The changes are not only visual, but also constructive. In the first variant, the “Handling Package” is more relaxed, while the second “Carbon Fiber Track Package” is equipped with an adjustable spoiler and 20-radius carbon discs. There are no rear seats in the second version to reduce weight, increasing the speed indicators of the fastest stock Mustang.
